You are not for everyone.
You will be too much for some people.
You will be too loud, too quiet; too outgoing, too reserved.
You will laugh too loud or not laugh enough.
You will cry at the wrong times and say the wrong things and find humor in the wrong places.
Your personality will be too big, too much. Or then again, they may find that your personality isn’t big enough for them at all.
Your hair will be too long or too short. It probably isn’t the right color either.
You clothes will not be right.
Your religion or lack thereof will turn them off.
The books you read, the music you listen to, the way you spend your time? Those are all wrong too.
News flash: You are you, and you are not for everyone.
But you know what?
Who cares.
If you are someone who can walk through life and live up to your own values – well then, that’s all that really matters at the end of the day.
When night falls and your head hits your pillow, if you can look back over your day and know that you stayed true to yourself, that’s it – that’s everything.
Not everyone will be your people. And that is okay.
Don’t shrink yourself, darling.
Don’t make yourself small to accommodate other people.
Don’t dim your light so that other people are comfortable.
Be you – wholly and authentically you.
There is, after all, only one of you. And that makes you pretty damn special.
Until next time,
Jeri Austin
